The old districts with cozy narrow streets, the town’s urban buzz on the main island of Kirkelandet, Kirkelandet church with its modern architecture, Varden viewpoint with panoramic views of the ocean, mountains and fjords. We also visit the Norwegian Klippfish Museum/Milnbrygga wharf where you get a good insight into an industry that has been vital to the development of the town and that has resulted in Kristiansund having close connections with Spain, Portugal and Brazil, among others. Klippfish was produced here until very recently. The wharf shows the development of the Klippfish industry in Norway from the 18th century up until the post-war period.
The wharf has been built in stages and the oldest part was built by William Gordon in 1749. The atmosphere inside the wharf is unique, with the odor of Klippfish and salt hanging in the air. The guided tour takes you through the unique and original interior of the wharf, and you can see photos of how Klippfish was traditionally made. You also have an opportunity to sample the famous Kristiansund Klippfish dish ’Baccalao’.
The tour proceeds at a leisurely pace with stops en route for photo opportunities, viewpoints and visits to museums.
