You already know Molde? You want to experience something special, away from the tourist crowds? Then visit the Rose Maiden in her home Heilhaugrem outside Molde.
Our excursion starts in Molde, the administrative centre of the county of Romsdal. The city is located on the shores of the Romsdal fjord, surrounded by hills that provide a backdrop of 222 peaks that are covered in snow almost all year. Molde is known as the City of Roses, thanks to the fragrant rose nurseries that benefit from the mild climate and fertile soil of the sun-drenched slopes surrounding the city. The city still has the same air of calm and tranquillity that convinced Ibsen to make it his home.
Our coach will take us through some of the area’s best ski resorts, before descending to Farstad and further on to Heilhaugrem on the coastline of Hustadvika. There is a typical red wooden house situated on a small hill with a fantastic view over the sea, this is where the “Rose Maiden” and herbalist Sabine lives and has created a wonderful herbal garden in recent years. It is really amazing what variety of plants defy the sometimes-hard coastal weather.
“After a warm welcome, I take you on a tour of my coastal garden, where you can enjoy the wonderful view over the sea. This tour enchants the senses in all seasons. In the spring with the fresh green of the young plants and the spirit of depature, in the summer rose petals delight the heart and nose, and in autumn you can expect the scent of ripe fruits of elderberry, aronia berries and hop cones.
Afterwards I invite you to visit my private home where I will give you some insight into a typical old Norwegian farmhouse and talk about Norwegian home life such as gardening, how they furnish their homes, traditions and more. And you can have a look over my shoulder in my herbal factory while I talk about land, people and my life. I am happy to answer your questions as well.
Surely, you have always wondered how people lived in the fjord region, what daily challenges they face and what their living conditions are like, I will answer all your questions with pleasure. I will report on personal experiences, share strange and exciting stories of life in Norway and the fjord region as well. And you will get to know a typical, old red wooden house where herbs can be found inside the house as useful plants in the windows or for decoration too. In the end, I will give you a memory from my herbal work as a souvenir.”
As the tour continues along the coast we will pass by some graves from the Viking age, and listen to the history of three important Viking chieftains of Hustad, before reaching Bud. A charming fishing village facing the open ocean. On a clear day we can see the Bjørnsund Islands where the buildings are now used as summer houses. Along the way we will pass Elnesvågen and the picturesque Malmefjorden before heading back to Molde.
